Veronica Beatriz Pinero
LL.D. Candidate, Faculty of Law, University of Ottawa
Veronica Pinero is a LL.D. candidate at the Faculty of Law, where she
is a recipient of the University of Ottawa admission scholarship.
Veronica’s research project deals with the question of young offender
intervention strategies at the international level. Veronica has
already addressed this area of research for her LL.M. major paper,
which focused on the Canadian legal approach to young offenders.
Her LL.M. project was awarded a SSHRC summer research scholarship, and
it was later accepted for publication by la Revue Générale de Droit.
Veronica also holds an M.C.A. in Criminology from the University of
Ottawa, and a LL.L. from the Universidad Nacional del Sur (Argentina),
where she received an award for academic excellence.
Veronica is a member of the Academic Committee of the Department of Law
at the Universidad Nacional del Sur (Argentina), and a former assistant
lecturer in that University for the course Philosophy of Law. She is
also a researcher for the Canadian Research Chair in Legal Traditions
and Penal Rationality and a research assistant for Dr. Valerie Steeves.
Veronica’s main area of research is criminal law. She worked as a civil
servant in the Poder Judicial de la Nacion in the area of criminal law
(Argentina). Also, she has done internships at the Canadian Foundation
for Drug Policy (Canada) and at the United Nations Office on Drugs and
Crime (Austria).
Veronica’s
other areas of research include illegal drug and HIV/AIDS policy,
juvenile delinquency, human rights law, and child-soldiering. She
has already published in these areas and presented her research to
academic conferences.
