Inbal Solomon
M.A. Candidate, Department of Criminology, University of Ottawa

Inbal Solomon is a masters student in criminology at the University of Ottawa. Prior to her post-graduate education, Inbal was one of the lead organizers of the “Children’s Rights and International Development” conference, co-sponsored by the Canadian International Development Agency and the University of Ottawa. This conference, which involved more than 250 governmental and non-governmental representatives, academics and students from all over the world, showcased research projects on the plight of children internationally and the need to re-conceptualize children as effective researchers in addition to study informants.

Inbal’s main research interests include child soldiering, children in institutional care and the militarization of societies. Her M.A. thesis focuses on the militarization of children in the Middle East. Inbal has also conducted research on protection and privacy issues regarding children’s use of the internet, and is particularly interested in internet-related competing (and often simultaneous) discourses framing children as dangerous and in need of protection.
